The board members of the Seychelles Authors and Composers Society (Sacs) met President Danny Faure yesterday at State House.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the mandate of Sacs and how the government can help them move forward with its mission.
Following the discussion, the chairman of Sacs, David Andre, said the meeting went very well and he is pleased that the President took the time to see them.
“A society which promotes rights of authors and composers in a country is one which is very important because it safeguards creations and their copyrights especially in the music industry. With this not only are we keeping our cultural heritage which is vital and should be respected, but also help members of the public as well as artists understand that it also brings economic benefits,” he said.
He said the President has promised that his government will assist them to make sure that their work is done properly and continue helping to promote and develop music in any way it can.
“To ensure that everything runs smoothly so that all artists and their work and creations which are being publicly used and distributed will be well remunerated and at the same time educate the population on the meaning of copyrights,” he said.
Other members also present during the meeting were the secretary Jimmy Savy, treasurer Galen Bresson, office director Cindy Phillips and ordinary member Patrick Joseph.
