dannyPresident Danny Faure yesterday met a delegation from the artist associations led by the chairperson of Seymas, Jean-Marc Volcy.

The meeting took place at State House.

Speaking to the media after the encounter, Mr Volcy said during the deliberations they discussed what contributions can the government offer the music industry.

“During our discussion with the President, we discussed mostly what contribution can the government bring to develop the music industry in Seychelles. We also identified some issues that artists are facing nowadays like exportation of music, and hotels who don’t want to employ local artists,” he said.

Danny Sopha, the chairperson of the Art Federation Seychelles (SeyLar), was also present at the meeting to discuss visual arts in Seychelles.

“I was able to talk about the importance of visual arts in Seychelles, we can use such art to bring people together, help people who are having difficulties in life. Visual arts can also be promoted abroad, so that other people can witness how talented we are,” he said.

Marie Clarisse from the writers association Lardwaz, representing the poets, said she highlighted the fact that poetry is not being given its due recognition as an art in Seychelles.

“We discussed some potential ideas on how to promote this art form, and maybe soon it will be recognised like any other arts,” she said.
