The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) hosted a session on the importance of the United Nations (UN) Youth Assembly and also the opportunities it offers to young people.
The session took place on Tuesday afternoon at the SNYC conference room, Orion Mall in the presence of the chief executive of SNYC Alvin Laurence, principal secretary for youth and sports Fabien Palmyre, the founder and president of UN Youth Seychelles Annarose Clarisse, UN representative Michael Charlette among other guests.
The session enabled all the participants to learn more about the forthcoming 20th session of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, an event which presents both an enormous opportunity and a challenge to stimulate and ensure youth engagement and participation in achieving an inclusive and sustainable future where no one is left behind.
The conference will allow a young Seychellois to explore cross-cutting and solutions for sustainable development in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions, and probably attend the conference scheduled to take place in August at the UN headquarters in New York.
The founder and president of UN Youth Seychelles Annarose Clarisse stated that such conference will provide an immense opportunity for talented Seychellois individuals to enhance their knowledge on sustainable development goals among others.
“Last year I got the opportunity to take part in the Youth Assembly at the United Nations and the opportunity provided me with adequate skills and knowledge to guide the youths and allowed me to be the founder of UN Youth Seychelles. I wanted to showcase what the youth assembly is about, what opportunities it provides for young people and eventually the ripple effect they can have in the country,” she said.
She added that such occasion allows discovering talented individuals with the vision of a better future for our planet.
“We wish to also highlight other youth opportunities at the UN that provides a platform for advocacy, progress and youth contribution toward the sustainable development goals that we feel Seychelles should always be part of,” she said.
While the youth are among those subjected to exclusion and marginalisation, they have the potential to accelerate and achieve sustainable development in their communities and beyond. With their unique sets of skills and perspectives in today’s ever-evolving world, they remain at the frontlines of innovation and change.
