Most political leaders in the western world today are facing increasing criticism and popular protest. But there is one exception of a leader whose popularity appears to be rising and is seen as “so far so good” by his people. We are here referring to Canada’s young and charismatic Prime Minister Justin Trudeau whose father, the late Pierre Trudeau, became a personal friend of Seychelles’ founding President James R. Mancham after the Daily Express of London had labelled Mr Mancham the ‘Trudeau of the East’.
In a recent letter to Sir James, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that it was a real pleasure meeting him at the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Malta where he expressed his appreciation of Sir James’ generous sentiments concerning his father which he wrote about in his last book ‘Seychelles: The saga of a small nation navigating the cross-currents of a big world’.
But perhaps of greatest interest to Seychelles is Prime Minister Trudeau’s revelation that he and his wife Sophie had spent their honeymoon in Seychelles and promised Sir James that he will certainly come back.
