Seychellois artists to participate in Jeux de La Francophonie 2017 in Abidjan, Cote D’ivoire.
Seychelles will be represented in four artistic disciplines at the Jeux de la Francophonie, which will take place in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, from 21st to 30th July 2017.
Three individual artists and one group were selected for these games bringing together young people from French-speaking countries. They were interviewed by a regional jury last October. In all, a dozen artists and two dance groups had participated in the auditions.
The selection is Isham Rath (song), Daniel Dodin (painting), Vanessa Lucas (photography) and the group Tricksterz (dance).
It was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Arts Council Jimmy Savy who announced the good news to the lucky ones during a meeting with them yesterday afternoon at the National Art Council. The Director General for Planning and International Cooperation in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Beguita Jeannevole was also present. The meeting was also a chance to explain to those being selected on what the expectations are in Abidjan, and how to prepare themselves in terms of training and other preparations.
The games in Abidjan, which are open for young people between the ages of 18 and 35, will comprise three parts; the cultural and sports aspects as well as development activities.
The arts competitions will include the following arts: street arts (dance hip-hop, giant puppets and juggling with ball). Visual arts (painting, sculpture and installation), song, literature (story and short story), creation dance and photography.
For sports competitions, the following disciplines will be honored: Basketball, football, hand sport, athletics, judo, wrestling, table tennis and road cycling. The activities of development will include creation for sustainable development and digital creations.
