This house was the Quarantine Station on Long Island. The island was declared a quarantine station in 1899. It was where passengers who arrived in Seychelles from countries where contagious disease was prevalent were kept for a specific period of time: small pox 15 days, yellow fever 10 days and cholera 5 days. Long Island was declared a prison in 1961.

On May 15, 1971, Seychelles got its first movie house when the 530-seat Olian Cinema in Victoria opened with its first movie ‘The shoes of the fisherman’. The cinema closed in 1985, after showing its last movie ‘Love Story’ on Saturday May 18, 1985. The management claimed that it was facing competition from pirate video outlets.
