Captain Savy, Mr Gilbert Faure and PS Garry Albert also addressed the meeting after an open and frank session of ‘question and answer’ with the gathered staff members.
Alain St Ange, the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine this morning met the staff from various sections of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), including the Human Resources & Administration, Finance, Air Transport and Operations divisions, as part of a series of consultative meetings programmed with the over 647 employees of the organisation.
The aim of the meeting was to provide the SCAA workforce with an opportunity to discuss issues and challenges of concerns directly to the Minister.
He was accompanied by Garry Albert, the Principal Secretary for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine; Anne Lafortune, the Principal Secretary for Tourism; Captain David Savy, the Chairman of SCAA and Gilbert Faure, the CEO of SCAA.
The meeting discussed several issues including the approval process for tender for business activities, security clearance for new recruits, the separation of the regulatory and commercial functions, the application of the 13th month salary, and related remuneration issues, including application of income tax and shift allowances.
The Minister thanked the staff of SCAA for their contributions and highlighted the important role they have in ensuring service delivery in the efficient, safe and secure functioning of the airport, particularly now with the increase in the number of flights. “The growth in operations and visitor numbers are positive developments for both the civil aviation and tourism sectors with important socio-economic benefit for the country” Minister St.Ange said.
The Minister highlighted that in order to meet the exigencies of the high service standards expected, it is of paramount importance that staffs are happy and satisfied in their workplace and their wellbeing is being given a priority. He again stated to all the safe members present that the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine is managed with an open door policy and that he will met staff individually is and when the need arises. The Minister also appealed for transparency saying that Seychelles and the People of the islands must be kept duly informed on happenings at the airports . “This is always so important because we have the duty to keep everyone duly informed at all times” Minister St.Ange said.
