Sri Lankan nationals come together in musical extravaganza away from home

1sriSri Lankan nationals living and working in Seychelles on Saturday evening gathered at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel to enjoy their music in the 1st Sri Lankan musical extravaganza to be organised here.

An initiative of the Sri Lankan Association of Seychelles in collaboration with the Sri Lankan high commission here, the event saw eight Sri Lankan music stars flown  over to join fellow nationals who include a singer living here as well as Seychellois artists Philip Toussaint, Jahkim as well as  two DJs to entertain the audience.

Vice-President Vincent Meriton and Sri Lankan high commissioner Tikiri Gunathilake were among the guests at the event.

Among the Sri Lankan artists who performed that night were Saman and the Clan, Soorya Dayaruwan, Visharada Kasun Pasquel, Chetahana Ranasinghe and Visharda Nilakshi Gunathilake.

Priyanga Tennege, the chairperson of the Sri Lankan Association of Seychelles, said “since 2004 the association has been bringing the Sri Lankan community in Seychelles together, strengthening the bond between those who have been here for some time and creating new ones. And also fostering the goodwill and strengthening bonds with the Seychellois community”.

2sri“Today we pioneer the first ever Sri Lankan musical extravaganza and hopefully the first of many such events to unfold in the future,” Mr Tennege pointed out.

On behalf of the Sri Lankan high commission and the association, Mr Tennege expressed heartfelt gratitude to the numerous sponsors who have contributed in many ways to bring over the artists and musicians.

“Thank you very much for your generous contribution without your support this first ever Sri Lankan Musical Extravaganza in Seychelles would only be a dream,” he added.
