Seychelles India day celebration - Bench Donation to Plaisance secondary...As part of the fourth Seychelles-India Day celebrations, the organising committee of the event has donated a set of eight benches to the Plaisance secondary school.

The benches were handed over to the school this morning in a special ceremony attended by the Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Tourism and Culture Minister Alain St.Ange, the Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Panda, the chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day organising committee Ramu Pillay and other members, the school’s headteacher Raymonde Lavigne and management team, teachers and students.

Minister St.Ange said culture is the one thing that keeps people together. He added that we must not shy away from what has made us what we are today, this lovely nation.

He said it is through culture that we will keep on shining and it is together as one people that we will continue to prosper.

Minister St.Ange thanked the committee for accepting to grant the request of the Plaisance secondary school.

Mr Panda said it is a delight to see that the committee with the support of its partners has been able to host the fourth Seychelles-India Day celebrations.

It is a beautiful way to start this three-day event by making a donation and contributing to a good cause. This ceremony has now set the tone for the next three days, he added.

Mr Panda said seeing the students dancing to the beats of Indian music, parading in Indian outfits, shows that Seychelles appreciates the cultures of other countries.

Minister Meriton has called on the students to take good care of the benches and to ensure that others who will be joining this secondary school will be able to use the benches.

On  his part, Mr Pillay said the committee cares for those in need in the society and this is why together they will always include a social project during the Seychelles-India Day celebrations.

During the handing over ceremony, students showcased their appreciation of the Indian culture through a few performances.
