Two colourful benches with the five colours of the Seychelles flag have been placed in the Tourism Pioneers Park located at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA).
The handing over ceremony was held this morning at the academy and it was the second activity as part of the Seychelles-India celebrations 2016.
Attending the ceremony were the Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange, Indian high commissioner to Seychelles Sanjay Panda, principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Francis, members of the Seychelles-India Day committee, as well as the management and students of the academy.
The benches were handed over to the academy’s principal Flavien Joubert by the chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day organising committee Ramu Pillay.
Speaking at the event, Minister St.Ange said STA remains the cornerstone of our tourism industry and we must keep on developing good cooperation that will benefit the students and teachers at the academy.
High commissioner Panda said the colours on the benches represent the five strengths of Seychelles and it is what makes this small island state a cultural mosaic.
On behalf of the staff and students, Mr Joubert thanked the chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day committee Ramu Pillay and other members for the donation.
Mr Pillay also echoed words of thanks to Minister St.Ange and the government of Seychelles for supporting the Seychelles-India Day committee and for making this national event a success.
The Seychelles Tourism Pioneers Park was officially opened last year during the Tourism Week by President James Michel. The first plaques bearing the names of a few pioneers were placed on the walls of the park last month during Tourism Week.
