Enterprise has donated a set of road safety vests to the Ministry of Education to be used by the ministry’s traffic wardens in their daily duty of assisting school children on the roads, especially when crossing.
The safety vests were donated by Collins Labiche of JAD Enterprise to Marina Jacques, a member of the Advisory Committee for Road Safety for the ministry in the presence of other members of the committee namely Patrick Andre, principal secretary for transport and Desire Payet of the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC).
Mr Payet said the donation came about after a demand from the traffic wardens which was brought to the attention of the committee.
The vice-chairman of the Seychelles Pick-up Association took up the matter further and had the vests imported for such use.
All sides described the donation as a good example of public private partnership.
“This donation is our contribution towards society and our own children in schools. It is not a lot but it’s a beginning and we hope more will come in future,” said Mr Labiche after handing over the vests.
Mrs Jacques expressed her thanks and appreciation to JAD Enterprise for such a gesture and assured Mr Labiche that the vests will be put to good use.
“For a while now there has been a need for school wardens to get new fluorescent safety vests as it is a tool that identifies them well on the road while helping children cross the road,” she said.
PS Andre said the donation came about in the context of partnership with the private sector, what good gestures they can offer so our children can continue to emancipate in their development. And for the school wardens to keep obtaining appropriate equipment to carry out their everyday work in an effective way.
“Through these vests, the drivers will not be able to say they did not identify a school warden,” said Mr Andre.
